I trust there is no way to start an article with a lowercase letter (see EBay). Nonetheless, "IChat" looks rather goofy. Ed Cormany 04:53 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)

[edit] Screenshot

I don't think this screenshot is fair use; for one thing, it would be a simple matter for a user with a G5 to create a legitimately fair use screenshot. Can someone please go ahead and create one? (I would, but I lack a G5, and iSight, and friends). --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 21:16, May 25, 2005 (UTC)

Oh? It's a screenshot of a webpage, if that wasn't fair use why would we have the {{web-screenshot}} tag?. --Ctachme 22:22, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
It isn't a screenshot of a webpage, it's a screenshot of an image that was used on a webpage. I think that a screenshot of an image is essentially the original image, which could cause problems. —dcclark (talk) 20:10, 5 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Interoperability with AIM for Windows

I'm removing the following which was added by 66.25.40.200 and edited by Un sogno modesto:

As of January 29th, 2006 iChat 3.1 no longer supports video conferencing with AIM.

There is nothing on Apple's web site to support this, in fact [1] states that video conferencing is possible with iChat AV 2.1 and later; there's no mention of iChat 3.1 not supporting video conferencing with Windows AIM users. Can anyone find anything to support the statement? -- Hawaiian717 22:58, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

In fact, I chat on and off with someone using AIM on Windows, while I use iChat. BDWill Talk Contribs 07:48, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Something that's not clear to me after reading the article and this discussion is: does an iChat user need an AIM account to chat with an AIM user? Itub 02:51, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Yes. I need to sign on with my AIM username/password to chat with my friends on AIM. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 (T | C | @) 06:30, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. :) Itub 11:57, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Old chat room software

Is the old chat room software of the same name, related? -Tim Rhymeless (Er...let's shimmy) 04:51, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Sort of, apparently. What I want to know is, did Apple have to pay for the name, or what? --M1ss1ontomars2k4 | T | C | @ 17:59, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jabber Transport

I know wikipedia is not supposed to be a howto, but it would be great if someone could tell me how that jabber transport is supposed to work. Thanks.--24.82.175.172 05:16, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

In the future, you can post your questions at WP:RD, but here's a link you might find useful: [2]. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 (T | C | @) 05:41, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Open Source Alternatives?

I have no problem with open source alternatives etc. -- but the thing is... it really doesn't belong in this article, I don't think. E.g. "Pepsi" is not listed amongst alternatives in the Coke article, etc. - Abscissa 09:04, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

No kidding - I just came here to say the same thing. I'll remove it now, it sounds like a weaselly attack on iChat. Nihiltres 03:22, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:IChat AV icon.png

Image:IChat AV icon.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] HTML tags bug

There's a bug and it should be described. In the main article (so I did). In the Chax section there's a description of the chax feature that it can do, which is not the same as the bug description itself. So I feel both mentions are worthy. This article reads like an advertisement for software addons. Can we rewrite it to be more about the original software and less about the attachments? Also, the history section starts at iChatAV, not iChat the original. --Kanerix 76.27.124.67 (talk) 21:20, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
