[edit] Greatest Hip Hop Artist?

The sentance, 'Regarded as one of the greatest hip hop artists' is non-NPOV and should probably read, 'regarded by MTV.com and Snoop Dogg as one of the great hip hop artists.'--67.234.209.142 (talk) 03:58, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] KAM grammatical errors

I'm terrible at grammar otherwise I'd fix it myself, but that entire paragraph is one sentence. I'm notorious for using run on sentences/paragraphs myself, so I'm not sure the best way to go about fixing it. It's a bit confusing to read, so if anyone has a spare minute, it could use a little editing. Tainted42 03:29, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Inconsistencies

In this page it says his album laugh now cry later has gone gold. In the album's page it says it has gone platinum. Which one is it? Wikipedia needs to be consistent.Drumac 07:36, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

The article claims that Ice Cube was born and raised in South Central but also that he attended Taft High School, which is in Woodland Hills -- pretty far away from South L.A. If that is true, how did he end up there and what were the circumstances of the move? I wonder how fellow Taft alums like Lisa Kudrow and Wilmer Valderrama managed to avoid the "gangsta" lifestyle? PatrickWB 02:33, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Arrests?

In the lyrics to his new song Race Card, which promotes and is the theme song to his show Black and White due out in March, he says that he was arrested, and just like martha stewart, he pled innocent. Does anyone know when he was arrested, and what the charges were? his arrest record is not mentioned in the bio..

Weren't the members of NWA arrested once during a performance because they performed F tha police? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.166.37.220 (talk) 07:09, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ice Cube page

Is this guy really the most notable ice cube out there? As opposed to the beverage additive[1], or the particle physics project[2]? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.2.40.226 (talk • contribs) 17:39, 14 October 2004 (UTC).

Ice cubes already have their own page, and there is no page for the IceCube project, so it would seem that Ice Cube is the most notable entity named Ice Cube, with that capitalization and spacing. TOO 19:33, Oct 14, 2004 (UTC)
yes. he is. who the hell looks up "ice cubes" on wikipedia? --68.38.159.93 18:54, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I posted my thoughts on the matter in the "ice cubes" discussion page. Hopefully we can get this fixed. --Taurus8 sam 02:49, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Well they changed the ice cubes page to ice cube so it directs there now. I would think more people would be searching wikipedia for the rapper/actor than the square of frozen water. Oh well....Drumac 07:39, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] His Parents

Can someone please clear up what ihs parents did at UCLA. On some sites, people say they were UCLA professors. On npr i think he talked and said they were custodians, like working with the lawns and stuff. ~~ sp0 9/11/2006

[edit] OJ

O'Shea Jackson (Ice Cube) was named so that his initials would be "OJ", like OJ Simpson. Someone might want to add this somewhere. The preceding unsigned comment was added by CPS (talk • contribs) 03:40, 13 February 2005 (UTC).

  1. Be bold.
  2. Source? Wanka 23:54, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Racial aspects of his music

It's been brought up on and off in various media, so the controversial racial aspects of his music should probably be at least mentioned. Most notorious is probably the threat of violence against ethnic-Korean shopkeepers in "Black Korea", although there are dozens of threats of violence against white people that are cited on and off as well. --Delirium 08:29, August 28, 2005 (UTC)

    • Calling them "threats" is an exaggeration, especially given what we know of Cube's non-criminal background. Saying that they promote highly negative (if not outright racist) views of particular groups of people is more honest.

How is no vaseline antisemitic? He said "you let a Jew break up my crew." Jerry Hella is a Jew is he not?

as for black korea, who the FUCK is anthony choe, and why is his essay relevent? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.71.26.11 (talk) 09:18, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Iceberg Slim

what about his name paying homage to Iceberg Slim? i think that is a pretty important thing to add... --timeheater 07:18, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

I would say only if you have a source. Ice T has often mentioned Iceberg Slim in interviews and songs but I've never heard Slim mentioned in context with Cube.
he's mentioned in "Who's The Mack", but i didnt think it was positively, sometimes Cube's hard to interpret. "...like Iceberg Slim, and all of them claiming P.I.M.P...", something like that. --AlexOvShaolin 23:01, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Muslim

According to this page:http://www.islamicaweb.com/archive/t-13644, Ice cube is muslim.

Well, should I add it to the page?????????????????????
Anyone?
Not on the basis of that page, but if you can find an authoratative source, yes. Rich Farmbrough 14:25, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
Actually it already says Cube toured on Lollapalooza in 1992 and widened his fan base. Also during that that year, he converted to the Nation of Islam. Rich Farmbrough 14:38, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
Nation of Islam is *not* a recognized sect of Islam (see Wikipedia entry on Islam for more details)

Cube calls himself a "natural Muslim" so that has nothing to do with Nation of Islam and he also has denied affliating with the Nation

Cube never officially converted to the Nation. He basically just tagged along. There was some song - I forget which one - where Shorty of Da Lench Mob dissed him for claiming to be an NOI member when he wasn't (Shorty, of course, was a member of Cube's group Da Lench Mob). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 193.61.200.145 (talk) 01:01, 15 February 2007 (UTC).
On the song "24 Mo Hours" from "War & Peace Vol. 2 (The Peace Disk)" the chorus (or part of it) is "I pray to you God, I look to Allah" I'm pretty sure he mentions it else where. TheTrojanHought (talk) 18:47, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] NPOV

Very non-NPOV. Repairing some sentances. i.e. "the album was a masterpiece of old school rap" "his lyrics were groundbreaking".

The way to usually fix that is: "The album is considered a masterpiece by many critics and fans"; "his lyrics are considered by many hip-hop historians to be groundbreaking" (not in these exact words, something like that). In these cases, it's best to have quotes from magazines, hip-hop sources---etc.---which show that a number of critics/hip-hop historians have said things like that. Anyway, there will have to be some mention of the fact that his early work is indeed widely regarded as groundbreaking and that he produced classics and even what some critics consider masterpieces in the genre. Alexander 007 00:22, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
Best to say "considered by some" (not "many")

[edit] Quality Standards - Tagged Since?

--> This article has been tagged since Februrary 1916. <--

Obviously not tagged since 1916. Anyone know when?

[edit] Album list problem?

Laugh Now, Cry Later (2006) (Lench Mob) i think lench is spelt wrong, also, should this be listed under solo

No that's how he spells it. Its a play off of lynch mob

[edit] This Article Needs An Overhaul

Terrible organizational structure, and some pretty bad grammar (mostly fixed by me, I hope) and sentence structure. --Pathogen 18:25, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

The 'technique' section looks like it was written as a high scool short-essay, by someone who is not doing too well in English.

[edit] Location of birth

I already changed it, but someone posted that he is from "Crenshaw, California". Crenshaw is NOT a city...there is something called the "Crenshaw District" which lies for a mile or so right off of Crenshaw Boulevard, which is a major street in Los Angeles. But it is not a city, and no one ever claims to be from "Crenshaw".

You're not from Crenshaw. People do claim to be from that area.

[edit] pioneered the tactic of dissing a rival over their own beat ?

I don't think Ice Cube ever did a diss track against anyone with the their own beat.

See "Jackin' for Beats" (Kill At Will). Not a diss track, but it WAS the first track to jack beats from other rappers, which has involved to the art of jacking beats from your oponent to use against them.

[edit] Boyz in tha Hood

DJ Yella has stated that Boyz n the Hood was written by two guys from New York. How can we attribute this to Ice Cube? Perhaps someone else can research further and find a proper citation either way, for whomever did in fact write it. (Transcript of published article - http://www.daveyd.com/yella.html)

Ice Cube wrote it, Eazy said that, and so did cube--EZ 02:09, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Someone needs to fix the bottom graph

Someone needs to fix the bottom graph displaying all of Ice Cubes records, it looks like shit, can anybody fix it becuase I cant, and you guys know how. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.94.24.223 (talk) 00:20, 23 February 2007 (UTC).

Somebody removed the old Photo, this current one is all blurry.Ill Upload a new pic —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Achinslimshady (talkcontribs) 14:44, 19 March 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Planet of Da Apes

Can someone upload the album cover for Da Lench Mob's Planet of Da Apes for Ice Cube's discography, I having trouble uploading right now. Payne2thamax

[edit] ice cube discography

someone created a discography for ice cube, i'm going to remove all the non-solo albums from this page. --AlexOvShaolin 06:30, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ice Cube a Crip?

Since when, he is or has been with the Crips?

Thanks in advance to whoever reply back. --Tasco 0 00:21, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

never. whotf keeps coming up with these rumors? Just to be clear, no member of N.W.A. was part of any specific gang. I'm sure he has friends who are/were (I think WC is) but Ice Cube himself was never in a gang.

Okay, thanks for helping out. --Tasco 0 20:56, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

WRONG!!!! EAZY E WAS A COMPTON KELLY PARK CRIP AND SO WAS MC REN!!!!!!

no he wasn't. As I said above, no one from NWA was in a gang.64.105.137.171 03:21, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Eazy was a crip you idiot. In alot of his songs he uses "Loc" which only crips use. I don't know about MC Ren though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.47.140.143 (talk) 02:31, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

a lot of rappers use loc. Dr. Dre did for example and he was never a crip.

[edit] This cube

Is he a racist?

No.

[edit] Free image request

Hi guys, I've removed the magazine cover which is currently being used as the illustrative image. Since Ice Cube is still alive, still performing, and it shouldn't be too hard to get a free image of him, the use of this magazine cover can, in no way, be fair use. It's actually a textbook example of non-fair use - don't use magazine covers unless they're really significant, say, Demi Moore posing naked while pregnant in Vanity Fair, or maybe Kanye West as Jesus on the cover of Rolling Stone.

Please don't think I'm just talking and not doing anything! :) I've left notes to a bunch of flickr users asking them if they'll consider licensing their images under a free license. Hopefully they'll consider helping out - it's pretty cool to have your picture on Wikipedia, where thousands of people can see it, I think.

Thanks guys, and please don't just revert me - we have to follow the rules here. Riana 17:16, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A new image

Hey, i wonder is this image: Image:IceCube22.jpg good to use? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Football 7 (talkcontribs), 17:37, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Football 7. Firstly you will have to give the source of the image, so that we can verify the copyright status. Could you please do that? Cheers, Riana 17:40, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I don't know how to do it :( Football 7 17:48, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Where did you find the image? On the Internet? Scanned from a magazine? Riana 17:49, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

It's found from a page, where it states the person who took the image Football 7 17:50, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

K, do you remember the exact source? Because otherwise it'll stay tagged as unsourced, and be deleted in 7 days' time... Riana 17:52, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I sadly don't get what source is.. excuse me for my non-pretty well english Football 7 17:53, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Actually it has been taken in a lower resulotion, the image is in a lower resulotion. It can be used in article related to Ice Cube. Football 7 17:58, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Yes, the low res bit is good :) However, the fact remains that it is unsourced - meaning we can't verify its copyright status - and that ideally we shouldn't use a copyrighted image for the article of a living person at all. I have to go to bed now but let's try to clear this up later. Hopefully you can find the source of the image if you have time. Cheers, Riana 18:01, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
2 free images have been found and uploaded to Commons - they are now being used in the article. This discussion can be safely archived, I think :) Thanks for your help though, Football 7! Riana 14:37, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

I got the source, so the one i uploaded can be used :) Football 7 18:54, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Updates?

The Recent years section really needs to be updated. It talks of film work in the future tense, and I know at least some of them have since come out. Can someone more familiar fix it? Murderbike 01:41, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Raw Footage?

Yo why did yall put it out??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.178.246.7 (talk) 19:49, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Are you refering to the deletion of the article? It was deleted because there was no official release date. And according to Wikipedia guidelines that's WP:CRYSTAL.
I don't know why, but it seems that certain policy does not apply to all the articles.--Tasc0 00:16, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
It's back been put there. --Flesh-n-Bone 11:25, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Nextfriday02.jpg

Image:Nextfriday02.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Ice Cube Islam

Ice Cube obviously converted to Islam at some point in his career. Wikipedia needs information on this, so if anyone knows any information/sources that has anything to do with this, please help by adding it to the page. Also, Ice Cube does have an affiliation with Islam, because if he didn't, he wouldn't be mentioning "Allah" as his "homie" in his songs (Example - Gangtsa Rap Made Me Do It Lyrics - (http://www.metrolyrics.com/gangsta-rap-made-me-do-it-lyrics-ice-cube.html) Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.6.190.213 (talk) 04:07, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
