[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:ShaneJohnson Ice.jpg

Image:ShaneJohnson Ice.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:42, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Merge proposal

I've proposed that the pages from three characters of this book, Charles Shepherd (character), Victor Kendall (character) and Gary Lucas (character) be merged into this article. The issue I have is notabilty, this article accepts that "Ice attracted little notice beyond the Christian readership to which Shane Johnson directed it". I believe that given the involvement of Apollo Astronauts Charlie Duke and Alan Bean makes this book sufficently notabile for Wikipedia, I don't belive that this extends to the characters in the book. (I mean, people know who Winston Smith is who haven't read Nineteen Eighty-Four while no one knows who Gary Lucas is who hasn't read Ice, or seen these Wikipedia pages).

The only problem I foresee is that the articles for the to be merged are resonably long, but having read them I feel they can be condensed considerably. If this isn't possible, a potential compromise might be to have a Characters from the novel Ice page, but I feel even this would fail WP:N.Teiresias84 05:37, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

This should be merged - with very little of the character articles surviving - not notable enough. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 14:00, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move

This article has been renamed from Ice (novel) to Ice (Johnson novel) as the result of a move request.

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was - move to allow for dab page as neither more notable than the other. Keith D (talk) 21:34, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Ice (novel)Ice (Johnson novel) — To distinguish two novels: Ice (novel) and Ice (Dukaj novel), per WP:NC-BK#Standard disambiguation. —Visor (talk) 12:33, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Survey

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.
  • Oppose - unnecessary - and why is the question being asked in "Two" places? :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 12:58, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Why two places? Per WP:RM#Requesting potentially controversial moves, step 2. Visor (talk) 14:12, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Support - I don't think when there are two Ice novels that one should be (novel) and the other (Authorname novel), it seems prejudicial. MilesAgain (talk) 14:56, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Support - preserves neutral point of view, not declaring one to be more notable than the other, as the current arrangement does. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:01, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Support as it makes sense and make the current title a disambig page. 76.65.248.50 (talk) 19:34, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
