The Hockey Hall of Fame is a hall of fame and museum located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dedicated to the history of ice hockey, it contains exhibits that feature interactive displays, players, teams, NHL records, memorabilia and NHL trophies, including the Stanley Cup.
Daniel Alfredsson (born 11 December 1972, Gothenburg, Sweden) is a professional Swedish ice hockey player. He is the Captain of the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League. He currently resides in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and Särö, Sweden. A right winger with the Senators, Alfredsson usually plays on the first line with centre Jason Spezza and left winger Dany Heatley.
Ice hockey has traditionally been played predominantly by men, the history of the women's game dates similarly to that of the men's. Women's hockey became more popular over the latter half of the 20th century as both a participant sport and a spectator sport.
Maurice Richard was a professional ice hockey player who played for the Montreal Canadiens from 1942 to 1960. He was the most prolific goal-scorer of his era, and became the first to score 50 goals in 50 games. He also became the first player to score 500 goals during his career.
Wayne Gretzky, often nicknamed the Great One, is perhaps the greatest player ever to play. He has accumulated 61 different NHL records, including Gretzky being the only player to have a 200-point regular season, achieving that four times, scoring the most goals in the regular season, 92, and most assists, with 163.
Jacques Plante was a professional ice hockey goaltender. He is best-known as the inventor of the goalie mask. Plante also popularized the idea that goaltenders should play the puck outside their crease to aid their defencemen.
Joe Malone was a prolific goal-scorer in the early days of the NHL. He held numerous scoring records during his era, which include scoring 44 goals in 22 games, and scoring seven goals in one game.
Mario Lemieux was a professional ice hockey player who played 17 seasons for the Pittsburgh Penguins, from 1984 to 2005. He became the principal owner of the Penguins in 1999, after buying the team out of bankruptcy.
The Finland national women's ice hockey team is the top Finnish national team. Along with Canada, United States and Sweden, the Finnish national women's team is the only one to win a medal in the Winter Olympics, winning bronze in 1998.
Christoph Schubert of the Ottawa Senators beats the New Jersey Devils' Martin Brodeur in a regular-season game on January 6, 2007. Ottawa and New Jersey met in the playoffs, in the conference semifinals. Ottawa won the series 4–1.
