[edit] Plot
Ducky comes in to examine Cpl. Liam Michael O'Neill, who was found face down at 6 in the morning in a snowdrift in Montrose Park. However, unlike the bodies Ducky is used to working with, this one comes back to life on his examining table. The Metro police had found Liam in the snow, and he is now in a hospital. Ducky notes that Liam was hit on the head and pushed face down in the snow. Abby notes that one of the things in Liam's pockets was a receipt for a restaurant in Baghdad from three days ago. Liam flew there and back with a freight company called Fast Flight. While talking to the owner, Nick Taylor, Ziva gets a call that someone is with Liam in the hospital. Ziva and Gibbs go to the hospital, to find out that Mike Franks (Gibbs' former partner) is there - Liam is his son, whom he didn't know about until a few years prior.
Liam contacted Mike, asking for his help, but didn't say what the problem was. When Abby gets Liam's phone working again, McGee finds some calls to Pagoda Investments, owned by Jimmy Shaloub, a money launderer. Jimmy tells Gibbs and Ziva that Liam contacted him for $25,000, but he didn't give Liam the money. Mike comes over to NCIS headquarters, seeing from a monitor that Jimmy is somehow involved in the investigation. He asks Gibbs to accompany him to the hospital, since Liam is to be taken off of life support. However, when Gibbs gets back, Abby informs him that Mike was in the car with Liam, having a fingerprint match.
Mike tells Gibbs that he was the person who helped Liam get the $25,000 he needed, but refuses to tell Gibbs what the money was for. Abby tells Gibbs that a green powder in Liam's pocket is Henna, but doesn't know why Liam had Henna (used either for tattoos or hair coloring) in his pocket. McGee cracks Liam's voice mail code, finding one voice message from Nick Taylor. When the team goes to Fast Flight to see what 'package' Nick was telling Liam about, they find three bodies on the floor - Nick Taylor, and two criminals. However, a third person is missing, having left behind a Koran. When Mike Franks' car is found, a pistol is found in the glove box, having been recently fired. The residue in the gun has calcium oxide and crystaline cylica particles in the gun.
When checking Jimmy Shaloub's records, they note that he flew with Fast Flight 7 times in the past year. When questioned, Jimmy admits he was a silent partner with Fast Flight, putting in $1 million over the course of a year. When McGee later asks to look at Jimmy's shoes, he notes that there are calcium oxide and crystaline cyclica particles - the same particles used in a glass factory, which happens to be next to Fast Flight. Gibbs figures out that Jimmy killed Taylor, who was smuggling people into the country and who killed Liam when Liam didn't come up with the money. Gibbs finds Franks outside a hotel, where the third person in the container - an Iraqi woman who was set to be married to Liam - is sitting in a taxi. Franks paid the extra $25,000, brought the woman to his hotel, then saw Jimmy kill the others. He planned to plant the gun in Jimmy's car and call Gibbs. Gibbs hands the Koran to the woman, who has extensive tattoing on her hand - thus the Henna in Liam's pocket - and sees a light haired baby boy in her arms, presumably Cpl. O'Neill's son, as he walks away.
Meanwhile, Tony is busy spending time with Jeanne. She invites him on a date at a rock-climbing gym, where he surprises her by his ability to climb. However, when she insiunates that he should tell her he loves her, Tony sidesteps the issue. Later in the episode, Tony finds out that Jeanne is avoiding his calls and crying, because she told him she loved him, but he has yet to say the same. At the end of the episode, continuing the mystery story arc left at the end of Suspicion, a woman with a high-speed camera is seen looking at recent photos of Tony and Jeanne on her laptop.
Ziva is shown wearing an orange cap and commenting that she is running a new route which she is still unfamiliar with. This is in reference to Lt. Roy Sanders (who was poisoned and was dying in the episode Dead Man Walking), who used to wear that orange cap, with the insinuation that Ziva is trying to find a running route that doesn't remind her of him. She also makes the comment "I've had enough of dead men walking", making direct reference to the episode.
