Ice Hockey at the 1986 Asian Winter Games took place in the city of Sapporo, Japan. Only four nations competed in the sport: China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Each team was given two games with each of the other teams, for a total of six matches. A team gained two points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss. The team that gained the most points was awarded the gold medal.
China gained 11 points after winning all but one match - their second match against Japan, which resulted in a draw. Japan won all of their matches against the two Koreas; together with the point from the draw with their second games with China, Japan garnered a total of 9 points. South Korea won both of their matches against the North, while the latter won no matches at all, giving them 4 and 0 points respectively.
