Icacinaceae is a family of dicotyledonous plants that include trees and vines. They are primarily found in the tropics, and are characterized by haplostemonous flowers.

Only few genera are cultivated with ornamental purposes: Citronella, Pennantia. It is outstanding to point out that Citronella mucronata or Chilean citronella tree is a plant with tropical look that can be grown in temperate climates[1].
