[edit] Kurdish

He was born in the Kurdish parts of Turkey and he sings regularly in his native language of Kurdish. He went on his own television show and said that he is Kurdish for the first time after Turkey's legalisation process of the Kurdish ethnic identity. He was crying when he spoke in Kurdish and said he is Kurdish. These are important historical points and if Wikipedia claims to be neutral then it should not play into the hands of Turkish political point scoring against the Kurds and stricly stick to the facts as they unfold. There is a growing discontent amongs Kurdish readers of Wikipedia with regard to Turkish opression playing out into its articles.

He is a Turkish citizen and he speaks Turkish, his songs are all Turkish so why label him because of the ethnicity of his mother?

Good point, I think "singer in Turkey" will do. How does this look? —Khoikhoi 18:23, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

You have to keep a NPOV, Wikipedia is for facts not what you believe is true or what you want it to be like. The fact is that he is not of Turkish ethnicity, he says that he is of Kurdish and Arab ethnicities and that is what we have to accept as a fact. The man says it himself that he is of Kurdish and Arab origins, and no one can refute that. If you say that you are of this or that ethnicity I cannot say that you are not. As to the matter why we should have his ethnicity on this article is simply because it’s relevant to the article. Look at the thousands of articles about singers, actors, writers, musicians and so on that are on Wikipedia, most of these articles include there ethnicities. --D.Kurdistani 22:47, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] category:Arab people

How is he Arab? he has just Arabesque songs deniz 03:29, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

This article for the longest time said that his father was Arab, and his mother was Kurdish. Khoikhoi 04:03, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] as he is from Turkey

Nobody can say that he is kurdish.Do you have a dna test?Do not add kurdish noun to article.--Kafkasmurat 19:01, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

İbrahim Tatlıses said it himself that he is of Kurdish and Arab origins, I guess your right no one can say what his ethnicity is but himself. --D.Kurdistani 22:51, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lahmacun shops, bus line, and gangsters

Tatlises owns a chain of lahmacun restaurants, a bus line, and who knows what else. He is reported to have Sinatra-type connections with organized crime. Please consider adding these to the article.

Tatlıses' underworld connections are widely known. For the moment I have removed the one sentence about these per Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons Please find some reliable sources: I too think his "Sinatra-type connections with organized crime" ought to be included in the article. [edit] Naim Çeltic

Who is Naim Çeltic? and what exactly is his connection to the great İbrahim Tatlıses? If you know, please say. I would like to standardize the English and keep information about Naim Çeltic in the article. Thanks, Aramgar (talk) 17:05, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tatlıses is of mixed Kurdish and Arab background

I have provided two references which state that İbrahim Tatlıses is of mixed Kurdish and Arab background. I would suggest that we keep these citations in the article. If someone should feel diferently, he is welcome to make his case here. That is the function of a Wikipedia talkpage. Thanks. Aramgar (talk) 16:32, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
