WebSphere Information Integration is a suite of business software for data management tasks such as retrieving, profiling, cleansing, transformation and metadata management. The suite of tools has evolved over the last few years and was formerly known as DB2 Information Integrator. In 2005, IBM acquired the Ascential Software Corporation to expand the IBM Information Integration capabilities. The name of the suite has recently changed to IBM Information Integration Solutions.
In November of 2006, IBM announced that the new version of this suite would make up the IBM Information Server. The IBM Information Server is actually a combination of many of the products below.
This solution is an attempt to define a new type of strategic corporate asset, a data integration platform for Extract-Transform-Load (ETL), cleansing, profiling, federation and replication. The initial release features integration of the Information Integration products on a common metadata server. Subsequent releases will see support for the IBM Master Data Management platform and Rational tools. The products below enable information integration as part of IBM Information Server, but many are also stand-alone products.
