[edit] Request for edit summary
Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 10% for major edits and 0% for minor edits. (Based on the last 140 major and 13 minor edits in the article namespace.)
This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 17:30, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Caves category
Hey Ian. A quick FYI. It's not necessary to add Category:Caves to every caves article if the article is already in a Caves in XXX category. For instance, the Raggejavreraige article is in Category:Caves in Norway which is a subcategory of Category:Caves so there's no need to add Caves again. I know it's sorta confusing, but once you get used to using categories it makes sense. If you have any questions about it, let me know. --NormanEinstein 16:50, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
- You mentioned not being able to email other Wikipedians. For the "Email this user" link on User and UserTalk pages to work, both you and the person you're trying to contact need to have entered their email address in the My Preferences page. And you need to check the "Enable e-mail from other users" on the same page. If you want to test it on someone, feel free to try me. :-) --NormanEinstein 17:36, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Where to report vandalism
Obvious vandalism should be reported to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, not Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Vandalism reports will often get lost at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, but will get acted on quickly at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Complicated vandalism should be reported to Wikipedia:Requests for investigation. I am not an administrator, so I cannot do anything about your vandalism report.
By the way, the shortcut to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism is "WP:AIV". Type "WP:AIV" into the search field to go there quickly. Likewise, the shortcut to Wikipedia:Requests for investigation is "WP:RFI". Jesse Viviano 20:33, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Caving Revert
i don't understand why you reverted my edit what is wrong with spelunking, webster says spelunking (noun) = the hobby or practice of exploring caves Randywilliams1975 03:16, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
- Because the whole naming issue has it's own section within this article, and it's redundant to mention it again in the first sentence. Ian mckenzie 02:23, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Harwood's Hole
Hi. The depth reference likely refers to the whole cave, connecting through to the bottom exit, not only the hole and original cave. The info is also found that way in the reference - please do not change referenced material unless you have a conflicting reference. Cheers. Ingolfson 01:13, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Ah; I see the problem now. Please note that "HH" and "Harwood's Hole" are not the same cave (I've been in both caves). I have recorrected the Harwood's data and removed the reference to it formerly being deepest in NZ, as that distinction belongs to HH, not Harwood's Hole. Ian mckenzie 00:33, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
...and I stand corrected on Harwood having previously held the depth record, and have restored that bit, but not the second website reference as that ref mentions HH but not Harwood Hole. See http://caves.org.nz/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/NZSS/DeepestCaves for a ref that includes both HH and Harwood Hole in their proper places. Ian mckenzie 00:46, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:CC66.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:CC66.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.
