Talk:Ian Schrager
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
All of the following is as of this moment completely obsolete and refers to older versions of the article. I already tried deleting it before but some busybody enforced wikipedia's growing mediocrity and put it all back, wasting all of your time.
[edit] too PR
This page still reads like an industry bio, please apply npov and add more information. Ckessler 22:15, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- you're right, but think about it: there is not much to say about Ian Schrager, he IS an industry bio. The article should be hugely trimmed down to say that he founded Studio 54, went to jail, restarted himself as a successful hotelier, list the hotels, and ... done.
-
- there is more to say about him but can be npov - need more facts and references. Regardless of people's personal feelings, in his industry he is an important figure
[edit] stripped this out
The way I see it, if there some other article (say, in the design or architecture sections) that talks about "effortless living", then Shrager can have credit for it. But it is wrong to create lift ideas like that and "lobby socializing" from the hotel marketing materials. Anyway, I removed this much, and probably what's left could use some clean up:
"Currently, he is redesigning the bohemian landmark Gramercy Park Hotel in a collaboration with artist Julian Schnabel, which is scheduled to open in spring 2006 and will present a completely new and unexpected model for a Schrager hotel.
"Now Schrager turns his attention to residential living. His first residential project, 50 Gramercy Park North, will provide luxury residences adjacent to the only private park in New York City. The project introduces the concept of "effortless living" and lifestyle management, where owners benefit from a fully staffed household 24 hours a day, seven days a week, without the bother of managing it, the full expense of maintaining it or any loss of privacy. Scheduled for occupancy later this year, the project is designed by London architect John Pawson, designer of the Calvin Klein store in Manhattan. Schrager is also in the process of developing 40 Bond, designed by eminent Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, which combines luxury apartments and townhouses - the first townhouses built in New York City in decades. In addition, he is planning residential and hotel projects in New York and Miami and an entire residential community with recreational and entertainment facilities in Las Vegas."
Shrager has done more than most to harm New York by turning communities into upper class shopping malls. Any real new yorker would be glad to hear the guy died of aids, and happy to watch him suffer. This is not a good person your dealing with, so try to get a little of how this guy relates to the communities he tears down to give the super-rich a new bobble to show their freinds for a month. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.164.37.106 (talk) 23:00, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
I find the above comment offensive

I edited some of the poorly written stuff, and I think it reads reasonably now.
