Ian Synman

Ian M. Synman is a former Australian rules footballer in the VFL. He played as a centre half-back for the St Kilda Football Club playing 153 games (0 goals) from 1958-69. He played 123 consecutive games and wore the number 9 (now worn by Fraser Gehrig).
Synman played in the 1966 premiership side. He was Jewish and the Grand Final fell on Yom Kippur, Synman received special dispensation to play.[1]
He is only one of the very few Jews to have played AFL/VFL at the highest level, let alone play in a Premiership.
