Ian David Patrick Macpherson, 3rd Baron Strathcarron, (born 31 March 1949 in London) is a British peer, the Right Honourable Lord Strathcarron of Banchor, and inherited the title on the death of his father David William Anthony Blyth Macpherson, 2nd Baron Strathcarron, on 31st August 2006.
After education at Hill House School, Horris Hill, Eton College, Hollingbourne Manor, Ashdown House, East Sussex and Grenoble University, Lord Strathcarron spent ten years in the orient working for Time-Life and as a freelance and there founded Japan Europa Press Agency which he sold in 2006. He was the founder of Strathcarron Sports Cars and was a Partner in Strathcarron & Company. He is a Director of Global Alliance Automotive Ltd, Chairman of Sophie Macpherson Ltd, a Director and Trustee of the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, a Director of Rory Macpherson Studio and a Yachtmaster Instructor. He is also the author of three novels, Invisibility, Black Beach and Taliban Ali.
Lord Strathcarron is currently living on his yacht, Vasco da Gama, recreating Lord Byron's 1809-11 Grand Tour of the Mediteranean for a forthcoming book and documentary [1]as well as preparing for the recreating of the original 1497/8 voyage of Vasco da Gama from Lisbon to Calicut in India [2].
He is married to Gillian (b. 19th September 1946) and they have two children, The Honourable Sophie Ananda Macpherson (b. 14th April 1978) and the Honourable Rory David Alisdair Macpherson (b. 15th April 1982).
