Ian Lawther is a Northumbrian piper based in the north west United States. He already played highland pipes when he started on the Northumbrian pipes at the age of 14. His own recording "The Empty Trough" was made in 1996 and includes Northumbrian, Highland, Scottish smallpipes, border pipes uilleann pipes, concertina, whistle, flute and bodhran. In addition he has appeared on recordings by Ned Ludd, Pete Castle, Eva Cassidy, Maggie Sansone and The Flying Cows of Ventry and on the soundtrack of Monk Dawson.
