Ian Lawson (born 24 March 1939) is a retired English footballer. Lawson started his career as an amateur at Burnley after being scouted in a local School's Cup Final along with James Robson who was picked up on the same day and both soon turned professional. Despite some good times, including a purple patch in the teams 1957 FA Cup run Lawson found it hard to break into the highly successful first team. After spending six seasons with The Clarets the 23 year old was then sold to Leeds United for £20,000. Here he established himself more fully, even turning down a £15,000 offer from Scunthorpe United in the 1963/64 season. However when Leeds got promoted he once again struggled to hold down a first team place. In 1965 Crystal Palace paid £9,000 for the centre forwards services and he spent a season with The Eagles before spending a season at Port Vale which cost them £1,000. Lawson ended his career at Barnsley although he did not make a first team appearance for them.
