Ian Dench

Ian Dench (born 7 August 1964, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire) is a British songwriter and musician.
Dench was the guitarist and principal songwriter for EMF, who scored a major international hit with "Unbelievable" in 1991 which was inspired by his ex-girlfriend. Ian began his music career as a punk musician although his father, Harold Dench a classical guitarist, later taught Ian classical guitar. Ian was also promising artist who dropped out of Ruskin Art College, Oxford to pursue a full time career in music. Before EMF, Ian was a member of Gloucester based band Apple Mosaic who were briefly signed to Virgin Records in 1987. Other members of Apple Mosaic were Laurence Windo (singer), Shane Young (drummer) and Mickey Dixon(bass). Their singles included "Velvet Avenue" and "Honey If" which only made it into the lower échelons of the top 100. After leaving EMF, he found some independent success with the band Whistler signed to Wiiija Records. Whistler released 2 albums "Whistler" and "Faith in the Morning" He is currently working with Amanda Ghost, with whom he co-wrote "Beautiful Liar" for Beyoncé's B'Day album and "Tattoo" for Jordin Sparks the American Idol winner. They have been working together since 1995 when they started writing for Amanda's "Ghost Stories" album which was released in 2000 on Warners Brothers Records. Ian lives in London with his wife and son.
