"I Will Possess Your Heart" is the first single from Death Cab for Cutie's seventh studio album, Narrow Stairs. It was released on March 18, 2008 and began radio play on March 24, 2008. The single was released commercially in the UK on May 5, 2008.

95.5 WBRU of Providence, Rhode Island was the first station in the U.S. to play the song, at approximately 1:30 p.m. on March 18, 2008.[1]

The music video for "I Will Possess Your Heart" was released on MTV.com on April 11, 2008 at noon. Directed by Aaron Stewart-Ahn and Shawn Kim, it features the band playing in an "Ice Box" kind of room (almost like a freezer). The video also follows a young woman who is traveling alone to various places around the world. 2 versions of the video were released, a full length version running 08:31 which features the album version of the song, and an edited 04:22 version which features the radio edit.
