I Was a Rat was a UK children's drama series broadcast on BBC One in autumn 2001. It was aired in the Sunday tea-time slot which traditionally accommodates a children's drama series in the run-up to Christmas.

It was based on the book by Philip Pullman which is set in the 1920s, telling the story of a young boy with a mysterious past who claims to be a rat. He is taken in off the streets by a kind elderly couple who name him Roger and it soon becomes obvious that he is no ordinary child.

Calum Worthy played the lead role of Roger/Ratty whilst the rest of the cast included Edward Fox as Professor Prosser, Gerald Murphy as Dr. Bullman, Kathryn Greenwood as Lucasta Utensil, Michael D'Ascenzo as Hocus and Don McKellar as Oliver Tapscrew.
