I Love to Say Da-Da

"I Love to Say Da-Da" (aka "In Blue Hawaii") is a song written by Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks. The song was originally intended to be on the famous unreleased Smile album before its sessions collapsed. It was the last major recording done for the ill-fated album.
The song was intended as the final portion of the "Elements" suite, originally recorded May 16–18, 1967. The Beach Boys resurrected elements of this song as "Cool, Cool Water" during sessions for their 1967 album Wild Honey, although it wasn't issued until 1970, on their album Sunflower.
When Brian Wilson reconstructed his version of the Smile album, he took the segment "Water Chant" (which would have been the second portion of the "Elements" suite) and combined it with "I Love to Say Da-Da" and a new orchestral coda to complete the song which he now called "In Blue Hawaii".
The original raw recording of "I Love to Say Da-Da" can be found on the Beach Boys' compilation box set Good Vibrations: Thirty Years of The Beach Boys along with other previously unreleased remnants of the Smile sessions.
