I Love Little Pussy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I Love Little Pussy is a highly popular nursery rhyme. First appearing around 1830, it tells how to gently handle one's pet. The rhyme has become controversial in recent times, where the term "pussy" has become slang for the female vagina. The line, "pussy and I, very gently will play" has been changed to "and her and I, very gently will play" in modern versions, for this reason.

I love little pussy,
Her coat is so warm,
And if I don't hurt her,
She'll do me no harm.
So I'll not pull her tail,
Nor drive her away,
But pussy and I,
Very gently will play.

An alternate lyric for the end, found in some children's books and also in the song of the same name, as sung by Little Marcy is

I'll sit by the fire/
and give her some food/
and Pussy will love me/
Because I am good.
