"I Got the Blues" is a song from the the Rolling Stones' 1971 album Sticky Fingers.

Written by singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards, "I Got the Blues" is a slow-paced, ravished song. Featuring languid guitars with heavy influence of both the blues and soul feel, it's said that singer Mick Jagger wrote the song about his break-up with Marianne Faithfull, singing at one point:

In the silk sheet of time, I will find peace of mind. Love is a bed full of blues

In his review, Richie Unterberger compares the Stones' take on their early influences, saying, "Musically, it's very much in the school of slow Stax ballads, by [Otis] Redding and some others, with slow reverbed guitars with a gospel feel, dignified brass, and a slow buildup of tension."[1]

Recorded during the months of March through May 1970, the song features Jagger on lead vocals, Richards and Mick Taylor on guitars, Bill Wyman on bass, and Charlie Watts on drums. One of the song's highlights is performed by Billy Preston who gives a soul wrenching hammer organ solo (at 2.11 seconds on the tape). Stones' recording veterans Bobby Keys and Jim Price performed on the saxophone and trumpet, respectively.
