[edit] Song Information

Released on February 24, 1998, it was the third single from Jackson's sixth studio album "The Velvet Rope". The original Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis-produced version is included on Jackson's 1997 album "The Velvet Rope". A remix featuring BLACKstreet was produced by Teddy Riley, and was released as a single. The song was nomiated for the Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. However, the award went to Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)".In 1998 Jackson performed this song on The Rosie O'Donnell Show and Soul Train. It was also included in concerts on Jackson's worldwide Velvet Rope tour, using the same choreography as in the music video. Jackson has not performed "I Get Lonely" live since that tour.

[edit] Chart performance

The song debuted and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Singles chart. It did relatively poorly in Europe, reaching the top 50 in some countries, though in the UK it charted at #5. In Australia, it barely reached the top 20 and in Japan it peaked at #93. It was another hit in South Africa.

[edit] Music video

The promotional music video for "I Get Lonely" was directed by Paul Hunter and released in March 1998. There are two versions of this video; one for the original song and one for the BLACKstreet remix. The first version is featured on the 2001 limited bonus-DVD edition of "All For You" as well as the 2004 video compilation "From janet. to Damita Jo: The Videos".
