[edit] Song information

"I Don't Wanna" was released in January 2000 in the US and in November 2000 in the UK. The song was a simple R&B and pop ballad. Aaliyah had not released a solo single since "Got to Give It Up" in December 1998. The song was produced by Donnie Scantz and Kevin Hicks.

Aaliyah's character in the song is saying that she doesn't want to leave her boyfriend, despite the problems in the relationship, saying "I don't wanna be alone". In the song, Aaliyah asks can she and her boyfriend "start again" and "work it [the problem] out".

[edit] Urban success & remix

The song received positive reception on U.S. urban radio, reaching the top 5 on the Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. "I Don't Wanna" also made it to the top thirty on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart. An unofficial remix featuring female rapper Trina was made. Trina's verse contains an aggressive and sexual tone, quite different from the original version's soulful pop sound. In the UK the song was released as a double A-side W/ "Back In One Piece" the single flopped in the UK and didn't even make an appearance on The UK Top 200 Albums & Singles chart

[edit] Trivia

- In Pleasure P's song "Rock Bottom", Rapper Lil Wayne uses Aaliyah's lyrics from "I Don't Wanna". He say's "When we hooked up we sat down Made an agreement, we vowed that That we'd always be together through whatever We said that no one would ever get between us This love would never ever leave us That was a while ago But now lately it feels like I mean I feel like all we do is fight Every single night Can't make it tight, can't get it right I just wanna go back, take it way back All the way back, can we start again Do it over, can we straighten it out Can we work it out, cuz...

I don't wanna be... Be without you"
