"I Can't Stan You" is a second season episode of the animated series American Dad!. It originally aired on FOX, on May 6, 2007.
[edit] Plot
The CIA opens its office to an unrestricted inspection and Bullock orders his subordinates to take home and hide one of their many illegal items. After they give away a life-sized Margaret Thatcher robot, a book containing God's autograph, and a machine that turns water into cocaine (which Bullock himself takes home), Stan takes the CIA's ultra-sensitive audio-surveillance equipment. Later that day, the Smiths get invited to a house party and Stan basks in his popularity. However, when they arrive home, Stan discovers that he forgot to turn off his listening device and hears the neighbors bad mouth him.
Stan decides to hold his own house party and invites all the neighbors. Afterwards, he hears them still bad mouthing him and his feelings are severely hurt. He then begins several attempts to make them love him (revealing all his bad experiences, painting everyone's house at once with lead paint), though these all fail. Stan then learns that the CIA has been given the power to seize any property that "could help them in the War on Terrorism". He evicts the entire neighborhood and sends them to the Corn Field Motel. Francine, Hayley, and Klaus try to figure out a way to stop him; however, Stan hears them criticizing him and sends them to the motel as well. Now on his own, Stan starts to choke on a peanut and is saved by Johnny (a little boy whom he constantly aimed his loaded gun at for fun). Johnny takes Stan to the motel and shows him that everyone "talks smack" about everyone else.
Meanwhile, Roger employs Steve in his scheme to sue companies into getting free stuff. Steve gets severely injured and breaks several limbs being "the Face" while Roger is "the Brain". After receiving plastic surgery, Steve proposes that they pull off one huge score and call it quits. Using one of the evicted houses, they swindle a couple into giving them $100,000, splitting it in half between themselves. Afterwards, Steve switches Roger's cash-filled briefcase with an empty one and the latter only realizes this after arriving in Mexico trying to buy a restaurant.
[edit] Cultural references
- The Cornfield Motel is a reference to the Twilight Zone episode, It's a Good Life, in which a young boy with amazing mental powers sends people who don't like him into a cornfield where they are never seen again.
[edit] Notes
- When Stan's co-workers are taking the Maggie Thatcher-bot to the CIA "beach-house", the items on and around Stan's desk are different after the cutaway to Bullock's lost weekend with the cocaine-making machine.
