I.N.R.I. was released in 1987 by Brazilian metal band Sarcófago and was considered the most polemic metal album ever released in Brazil. It is also considered a worldwide turning point in the black/death metal style. American magazines view it as one of the top ten black/death metal albums in the world.
I.N.R.I. was responsible for the band's success in the world's metal scene. A measure of this success is the enduring popularity of Sarcófago in the underground scene: they inspired a whole generation of bangers that tried to match their music and their style. Hundreds of bands have recorded their songs, and most versions come from this album. I.N.R.I. is a best seller album until today.
Originally self-released as a cassette with xerox covers. This album was re-released numerous times, with three different covers: orange (classic), blue and brown skeleton. The 2002 CD re-release by Cogumelo Records has 15 tracks. Tracks 10-12 were taken from the Warfare Noise I split album with Chakal, Holocausto and Mutilator, while tracks 13-15 are live from a tour in Argentina. The backcover says that the album has 14 tracks, number 10 being "Recrucify / The Black Vomit", but in fact it has 15.
