From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I.M. Chisov was a Soviet Airforce Lieutenant who is notable for surviving a fall of nearly 22,000 feet (6 705.6 meters) in January 1942.[1]

After German fighters attacked his Ilyushin Il-4 bomber, he bailed out and lost consciousness before he could open his parachute. His fall was broken by snow on the edge of a ravine and he rolled to the bottom, surviving with serious injuries.
