Talk:I'm Sitting on Top of the World
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article refers to two different songs. 'I'm Sitting on Top of the World' originally by Al Jolson is completely different to 'Sitting on Top of the World', originally done by the Mississippi Sheiks. The lyrics to Al Jolson's song can be found at http://www.carlinamerica.com/titles/titles.cgi?MODULE=LYRICS&ID=324&terms=1925 The 1st verse & chorus is:
[verse 1]:
DON`T WANT ANY MILLIONS,
I`M GETTING MY SHARE.
I`VE ONLY GOT ONE SUIT,
THAT`S ALL I CAN WEAR.
A BUNDLE OF MONEY WON`T MAKE YOU FEEL GAY.
A SWEET LITTLE HONEY IS MAKING ME SAY:
[Chorus]:
`I`M SITTING ON TOP OF THE WORLD,
JUST ROLLING ALONG,
JUST ROLLING ALONG.
I`M QUITTING THE BLUES OF THE WORLD,
JUST SINGING A SONG,
JUST SINGING A SONG.
GLORY HALLELUJAH, I JUST PHONED THE PARSON,
`HEY, PAR, GET READY TO CALL.`
JUST LIKE HUMPTY DUMPTY,
I`M GOING TO FALL.
I`M SITTING ON TOP OF THE WORLD,
JUST ROLLING ALONG,
JUST ROLLING ALONG.`

Was all the summer and all the fall
Just tryin' to find my, little Lenore
But now she's gone, I don't worry
I'm sitting on top of the world
Was in the spring, one summer day
Just when she left me, she's gone to stay
But now she's gone, I don't worry
I'm sitting on top of the world
Then you come here runnin'
Holdin' up your hand
Can get me a woman
Quick as you can get a man
But now she's gone, I don't worry
I'm sitting on top of the world
This is the song covered (with modified verses) by Howling Wolf (1957) and Cream in 1968. See also a discussion regarding the Mississippi Sheiks' song at http://www.guitarseminars.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000876.html
