"I'm into Something Good" is a song composed by Gerry Goffin and Carole King and made famous by Herman's Hermits.
[edit] Song profile
The song was originally recorded by Cookies member Earl-Jean McCrea in 1964 and reached No. 38 on the US chart. Then very soon Herman's Hermits remade it as their debut single, reaching No. 1 in the UK singles chart September 14, 1964 staying there for two weeks.[1] The song also peaked at No. 13 in the US later that year. Arranged by Hermit's guitarist Derek Leckenby, the song featured an uptempo rendition. It would also be covered by The Partridge Family but was never issued on any of their albums.
Herman's Hermits' release at the height of the British Invasion came while Brill Building songwriters, Goffin and King in this case, found themselves in danger of obsolescence, as most of the British groups wrote their own material. The song proved there was still a great deal of life in the song machine.
Notable lyrics in the song include - "I walked her home and she held my hand...I knew it wouldn't be just a one night stand...So I asked to see her next week and she told me i could...Something tells me I'm into something good..."
The song was featured in the first Naked Gun movie in 1988. From that movie's soundtrack, a solo version by Herman's Hermits frontman Peter Noone climbed the Adult Contemporary charts that year. It was also the opening song for The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue.
In 1989 Kids Incorporated coverd the song in the episode "The Hero". In late 2005, the song was used in a television commercial for Yogurt Burst Cheerios. It was also featured in a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo commercial and in a 2008 commercial for the Halifax.
