[edit] Song Information

"I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" is a mid-tempo R&B song by Mariah Carey for her eleventh studio album, E=MC². The song samples DeBarge's "Stay with Me" and recalls the melodic riff of the "Hill Street Blues" theme music. In early June, while in Japan promoting E=MC², Carey stated that It will be released as the third single off the album. "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" is scheduled to impact Mainstream and Urban radio stations on July 1st.[3]

[edit] Promotion

Carey has already began promoting "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time". On May 31, Mariah performed the song live at the 2008 MTV Video Awards in Japan.[4] The song was also the theme song for the telecast of the Japanese baseball match Carey attended on May 28, 2008.[5] "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" was also played during the ending credits of the Adam Sandler film "You Don't Mess With The Zohan". Carey also has a small role in the film as herself.

[edit] Critical reception

After the release of E=MC², several venues praised I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time as one of the stand-out tracks on the album. Los Angeles Times said that "In I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time her singing is so direct, understated and unglamorous it's almost shocking -- like seeing a diva without makeup."[6] While Fox News said that "The almost certain no. 1, I think, to extend Carey's long string: "I'll Be Lovin' U A Long Time," in which her production team marries a sample from DeBarge with the hook from "Hill Street Blues" and adds just enough of a new twist to create the most elusive thing of all: a radio smash."[7]

[edit] Music video

Directed by Chris Applebaum (Rihanna ("Umbrella"), Mary J. Blige ("Just Fine"), the music video was filmed in Hawaii on June 8. Rapper T.I. will be appearing in the video with Carey.[8]
