[edit] History

As noted, the series uses real events as a backdrop for the story. Writer Marc Guggenheim ends the first issue with a text page, reminding readers that the Darfur conflict is not fictional. The page also contains a number of website URLs providing further information about the situation. On the same page, Guggenheim states that he is donating his writing fees for the project to organisations working to improve the situation in Darfur.[1]

[edit] Plot

Hyperion and Nighthawk go head to head in Darfur, Africa.

[edit] Issue One

A piece of metal that appears to come from Hyperion's ship is found in Darfur, Africa. Nighthawk starts killing many men of the Janjaweed militia (it is alleged by a Janjaweed general that women and children are among the casualties-- and that is what the American Intelligence agent he talks to reports-- but so far, any "onscreen" deaths for innocents are as yet unproven). After finding the anti-hero, Hyperion is shocked to discover that Nighthawk has apparently stolen a piece of the alien ship that brought Hyperion to Earth. Nighthawk punches Hyperion and it hurts-- the source of this new "power" is unrevealed as of yet, but Hyperion suspects it may have something to do with the ship fragment.

[edit] Issue Two

The second issue reveals that Nighthawk is killing men of the Janjaweed militia in the hope that the international community will get more involved. But a month before going to Darfur, he breaks into Emil Burbank's private lab at the Squadron Operations and Residence Facility seeking a piece of metal from the alien ship that brought Hyperion to Earth.

[edit] Issue Three

After the fight Hyperion wakes up and asks Nighthawk why he was baited to come to Darfur, Africa. Nighthawk said that he is fighting a war and Hyperion is the most powerful weapon on earth. At the sametime the Five unnamed African super-humans that Squadron Supreme meet six months ago plan to force Hyperion and Nighthawk out of Africa. Later Hyperion sees first hand what Janjaweed militia are doing in Jebel Moon. After Nighthawk goes to the border to show Non-governmental organization group bring supplies and doctors into Darfur. But being stopped by African Union solders who are under orders given by Omar Al-Hamas president of Khartoum. Hyperion goes to Khartoum but is stop by Thayer who said that Omar Al-Hamas is need for the War on Terrorism. Hyperion kills him. Soon after Nighthawk and Hyperion come face to face with three African super-humans.

[edit] Issue Four

The source of Nighthawk new "power" is revealed as a prototype made by Emil Burbank to fight Hyperion for the United States government. Nighthawk and Hyperion come face to face with three African super-humans, who tell the two that, killing Janjaweed militia is no good, more will come, the "Quick Fixes" will not work. But time and effort and dedication are what will save Darfur, Africa. Hyperion said to Nighthawk "you want to help find another way".
