[edit] Usage

Example: {{Hydrobatidae list header|dialect=GB|count=3|country=The Gambia}}

Order: Procellariiformes Family: Hydrobatidae

Storm-petrels are small birds which spend most of their lives at sea, coming ashore only to breed.[1] They feed on planktonic crustaceans and small fish picked from the surface, typically while hovering or pattering across the water. Their flight is fluttering and sometimes bat-like. There are 22 species worldwide, three of which have been recorded in The Gambia.

[edit] Introduction

This template includes text that is in use in hundreds of regional bird lists. This text has been put in template form for standardization, and to make it easier to update.

[edit] Usage

Use {{Hydrobatidae list header|dialect=GB|count=# in region|country=Country name}} to create a heading for a list of birds (use "US" for American spelling). If you would like to add an addendum, you may type it in after the template. Example: {{Hydrobatidae|dialect=GB|count=3|country=The Gambia}} There are also several unconfirmed reports of additional species. An implemented example may be viewed at List of birds of The Gambia.

[edit] Modifying template

[edit] Dialects

If you wish to modify some of the text for a particular dialect of English, replace the text with {{#switch: {{{dialect}}}| GB = British word| US = American word| #default = British word}}. For example: {{#switch: {{{dialect}}}| GB = colour| US = color | #default = colour}}More dialects can be added if necessary. The last word, "colour" in this example, is the default in case the parameter "dialect" is not specified. It will be best to keep the default standardized to one dialect, so GB will be used (not that it matters if you specify the dialect when using the template).
