Hydroxybenzotriazole (HOBT) is an organic compound used as a racemization suppressor and to improve yield in peptide synthesis. It is a white crystalline powder. Commercial HOBt always contains some water (~10% wt). One should not attempt to dry HOBt themselves however, as dry HOBt is explosive. Some of its uses can be read in the article about peptide synthesis
Due to reclassification it is no longer allowed to be transported by sea or air so has been withdrawn by Novabiochem.
