Creeping plants with unusual leaves, hence the common name.

Marshy, boggy and wet places.
[edit] Cultivation
Undemanding but prefers a good substrate, at least moderate light. Benefits from additional CO2. Tropical or cool water aquarium. Prefers slightly acidic water conditions. Suitable for warmer ponds as a marginal plant. Can even be grown as a floating plant.
Widely used as a foreground plant.
