Hyalophagia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hyalophagia, or hyalophagy, is the eating of glass. Primarily noted as a pathological disorder, it is also considered a form of pica. Hyalophagia is highly dangerous to humans as the consumption of glass has the possibility to cut open the stomach, intestines, and throat as it passes through the system . The eating of glass is also a performance technique common to some sideshow performances.
The word comes from Greek hyalos = glass + phagein = to eat.
