As a young rapper Fatal looked up to legendary KRS-One and MC Shan, honing his skills and donning the name Fatal. Entering local underground rap battles, he developed a reputation around New Jersey as a hot up and coming rapper and battler. At the same time, he was earning another reputation on the streets, dealing cocaine for a living between 1987 and 1989. Fatal was arrested a total of twenty four times as a minor, charged with various crimes including assault, robbery, drug trafficking, possession of narcotics, illegal firearms and trespassing. As an adult, he has been arrested at least twenty-five more times.
Fatal went to high school with Yafeu A. Fula later known as Yaki Kadafi, Godbrother of famous rapper 2Pac; in 1995, when 2Pac was incarcerated in the Clinton Correctional Facility, Kadafi asked Washington to accompany him on a visit to the prison. Bruce thought Kadafi was playing a joke on him, and declined. Later, Kadafi's mother mentioned the friendship between her son and Shakur, and Washington reconsidered.Fatal visited 2Pac on regular basis 2Pac promised Fatal that when he gets released from jail he would be working with him and will be part of his crew.at That time Fatal did not belive 2Pac, but when 2Pac was released after 9 months in jail Fatal was called up by 2Pac and the first track they recorded was "All Bout U," which was released on All Eyez on Me album.

He was inducted into 2Pac's group The Outlawz, and Shakur gave him his alias, based on the name of the late Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. He appeared on various Outlawz projects (including infamous diss song "Hit 'Em Up") the All Eyez On Me album & other 2Pac projects. over the next year. Though he and Pac became good friends, they had a rocky relationship; Shakur rumoredly sent him back to New Jersey numerous times for acting out-of-line. An oft-cited example is when Fatal apparently borrowed Shakur's Land Cruiser without permission and crashed it. Eventually, Fatal apologized for his actions and calmed down; shortly after, he left California for a court date. The next day, Shakur was assassinated. 2 months later, Kadafi was killed as well. Hussein went in a downward spiral, quitting the Outlawz and quit rapping for a short period.
He resorted to crime; eventually he started up again, appearing on Cormega's shelved Def Jam debut album, The Testament. He signed with Relativity Records, releasing his first album, In the Line of Fire in 1998, which didn't do too well. While on Relativity Records he was featured on Three 6 Mafia's side project album 'Tear Da Club Up Thugs' on the track 'paper chase'. He left Relativity and signed with Rap-A-Lot Records, and began recording for a second album; in 1999, before its completion, he was arrested for assault and jailed.
[edit] Murder Inc Records
He was released in 2001 to a halfway house, then got out on parole in 2002. The next year he allied with Ja Rule, just in time for the escalation of the beef between Ja and Aftermath Entertainment/G-Unit/Shady Records. Fatal was featured on 4 tracks on Ja rule's album Blood In My Eye, two of which were diss tracks towards 50 Cent and G-Unit. There were rumors that Hussein Fatal had signed to The Inc. Records, but the rumors were not true.
Hussein fatal launched his own independent record label in 2004 called Thugtertainment.
