Here's to all of the people who helped me on my way
Here's a little stat you might enjoy.
- In every single featured article I have to my name, another contributor either worked on the article after I thought I was finished with it, or provided at least one useful comment during the featured article process. I'd like to thank all of those people who, be it for bigger or smaller, helped me to where I am today. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 01:07, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Hurricanehink (hence-force known as me or I) is a Wikipedia user and member of the Tropical cyclone Wikiproject. I first became an anonymous user on December 27, 2004. My first anon edit was to the Wikipedia sandbox, changing the word hello to Hello. This was to test that I really could edit the articles. Minutes later, I made my first mainspace edit to the 1969 Atlantic hurricane season by adding Inga to the lead for notable storms. For 8 months, I continued to become better at articles, during which I created my first article; 1949 Atlantic hurricane season. I also created 1939, 1925, 1924, 1923, 1909, 1907, 1905, 1904, 1903, and 1902.
On August 11, 2005, I became a Wikipedia user; my last name is Hink, and I like hurricanes, so I chose the name Hurricanehink. My first Wikipedia edit as Hurricanehink was a fix for the 1903 Atlantic hurricane season article. I am currently #2 on the List of Wikipedians by featured article nominations (#1 when omitting former FA's), as well as tied for #4 on the featured list nominations. For a list of featured articles I've written/done a lot of work to, see here. A few featured articles that I did a lot of work to have appeared on the main page.
- June 17, 2006 - Hurricane Floyd
- August 16, 2006 - Hurricane Mitch
- March 15, 2007 - Hurricane Iniki
- April 24, 2007 - Hurricane Edith (1971)
- July 28, 2007 - Hurricane Kenna

[edit] Articles
Ever since July 31th 1995, I have been tracking hurricanes, starting with Tropical Storm Erin (later hurricane), as it was going to hit near my cousins' house. Since then, I have tracked every single tropical depression, storm, and hurricane. More likely than not, if you ask me a name, I will be able to tell you if it was a hurricane or not. Luckily, my home state (New Jersey) has not gotten hit since 1903, but we are not immune to major hurricanes. On September 3 1821, we got hit by a Category 4 hurricane. If that were to happen today, well... it wouldn't be nice at all.
In addition, I started a little project of mine, based on satellite images from the Global ISCCP B1 Browse System. Here is a list of some Mediterranean tropical cyclones.
[edit] Winter break 2007 challenge
Challenge until the end of the year - For every article in the Tropical cyclone Wikiproject a user gets to FA status (other than those I got to GA status or better), then can pick the next article to work on. Just leave a message on my talk page with your article of choice when it is a FA. It's not much, but maybe it'll be an incentive to get some articles worked on.
The challenge is now over. Those with articles still on FAC have to make sure it passes, or it will be ineligible; those with articles on PR, or who have had an article on PR since I began the challenge, have until the end of January to get it on FAC or FLC. Hurricanehink (talk)
Rules
- It cannot be an article I created and got to GA status, or an article listed here
- It must be on FAC by the end of the year, though if it passes in 2008 it is still good
- One user is fully eligible to do more than one FA, and thus can pick one article for each FA
- If a user wishes to avoid an FA flood, they can put it on Peer Review, and leave me a notice indicating they will put it on FAC; if a user chooses to do this, it must be on PR before the end of the year, and on FAC before the end of January 2008

[edit] Some lists I've created
Music is my biggest love. I started playing the piano when I was 4 years old. I began by playing Christmas songs by ear, as I had Absolute pitch (I am one of the .01% of Americans who have it, my mother being one of the many tone deaf people). I now have my own music career, consisting of a blend of jazz, rock, and contemporary music. My primary influences are Jimmy Buffett and Billy Joel. I also can play the saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and flute. I am currently going to college to major in music composition, and I also am writing a musical.
Favorite shows in alphabetical order: 24, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Family Guy, Futurama, House, Mythbusters, The Office, Prison Break, Seinfeld, The Simpsons, South Park
