Template talk:Hurricane season links
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Usage
This template is a quick way to include links to adjacent hurricane seasons inside a single season article.
Use as
{{hurricane season links|<basin>|<year1>|<year2>|<year3>|<year4>|<year5>}}
where
- <basin> is the season's basin ("Atlantic hurricane", "Pacific hurricane", "Pacific typhoon", "Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone", "Northern Indian Ocean tropical cyclone").
- <year1>-<year5> are the 5 adjacent years. Thus <year3> is the year of the season in the article, while <year1> is 2 years earlier and <year5> is 2 years later.
Generally this should be used inside {{infobox hurricane season}} which has a specific entry for it. In most cases this is done with subst: as this information will never change once written.
[edit] Examples
The simples example is
{{hurricane season links|Atlantic hurricane|2003|2004|2005|2006|2007}}
which should be used inside 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. Slightly more complicated is
{{hurricane season links|Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone|2002-03|2003-04|2004-05|2005-06|2006=07}}
which should be used inside 2004-05 Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone season.
[edit] Discussion
I made this just as a quick way to include the links inside {{infobox hurricane season}} for newly-written season infoboxes, and to "upgrade" the old season articles to have consistent boxes. However it's pretty experimental at this point. The main problem is it's not very flexible (any changes to it will basically break all users). However it is much shorter than the current text needed for the 5seasons list, and makes formatting consistent throughout. Jdorje 07:56, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
