[edit] History
The majority of the homes within the neighborhood were constructed in the late 1800s and early 1900s as mansions for railroad executives based in Roanoke.[2] The residential design of the neighborhood is dominated by the two-story American Foursquare, and since the mid-20th century many have been subdivided into multi-family units.[3] Today the area is the location of the Hurt Park Housing Development and the Hurt Park Elementary School.[3]
