Hurricane Able

The name Able has been used for three tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean. It is the first letter of the Joint Army/Navy Phonetic Alphabet, which was used from 1950 to 1952 for tropical cyclone names in the Atlantic Ocean. There was also a Tropical Storm Abel in the 1996 Pacific typhoon season.
Atlantic:
- 1950's Hurricane Able- Category 4 hurricane that ultimately hit Nova Scotia as a tropical storm.
- 1951's Hurricane Able- Earliest recorded Category 3 hurricane. It threatened the Bahamas and North Carolina before moving out to sea.
- 1952's Hurricane Able- Long-lived, minimal hurricane that ultimately struck South Carolina, causing $2.75 million in damage and 3 deaths along its path through the eastern United States.
