[edit] Research and Partnerships

Just steps away from the University of Western Ontario's main campus of 30,000+ students, Huron University College has a vibrant university community[citation needed]. This partnership means students benefit from small classes and personal attention while enjoying the amenities of a large research university.

[edit] Features and buildings

Rough Park, its original property, occupied the block bounded by Grosvenor, St. George and St. James Streets in London Ontario. In 1951, Huron moved to its present location steps from the University of Western Ontario.

The administrative wing includes the Silcox Memorial Library and great hall. The Valley wing includes Jago courtyard and classrooms. The Huron dining hall is steps from the Western campus. Classroom W12, one of Huron's largest classrooms which holds 120 seats is used for many first year courses and larger lectures. The library is located on the main floor of the administration wing of the Huron campus. The Kingsmill Room at Huron is a spacious and elegant room located in Huron's main building.

Huron College was founded on May 5, 1863 by Benjamin Cronyn and Isaac Hellmuth, as a low church alternative to the Anglo-Catholic University of Trinity College. Huron University College, established in 1863 as an Anglican theological school, includes the Anglican seminary. [2]

The first class of 13 students were taught by Isaac Hellmuth (Huron's first Principal) in the winter of 1863. It has been a University of Western Ontario founding institution since 1878. </ref> http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/index.cfm?PgNm=TCE&Params=A1ARTA0008264</ref> The name was changed to Huron University College in June 23, 2000. [edit] Student life

The campus is small and compact on beautiful[citation needed], award-winning grounds[citation needed]. The centre of UWO campus is located just across Western Road from Huron's campus. The University Community Centre (UCC) and the Weldon Library are a short walk away. The Huron Residences, the Huron Library and the Huron Food Court are a short walk to modern, well-equipped classrooms. The community is warm and welcoming. Just minutes away from downtown London, where several restaurants, bistros, coffee shops, bars and nightclubs are located. A VIA rail station and Greyhound station are also near. The campus is close to the Masonville Commercial Area, where several stores are located, as well as a movie theatre and restaurants. Most of the major buses serving the city of London make routine stops in front of Huron. On top of the London Transit buses, there is a campus bus that takes students to various bus stops around campus. There are several paved and non-paved walking and biking paths close to Huron.

In a recent Maclean's Magazine University Report, Huron was shown as having the highest ranking for student satisfaction among senior students. Huron also had the highest ranking when senior students were asked this question: "If you could start over, would you go to the institution you are currently attending?" These rankings were composed of a survey among 41 of Canada's most notable universities.

[edit] Dormitories

All first year students are guaranteed residence accommodation. Students with a 90% average or better are guaranteed a single room. Hellmuth Hall is a co-ed residence and houses approximately 98 Huron students. O'Neil Ridley is a co-ed dormitory housing 185 Huron first year and upper year students. Southwest Residence is a suite-style residence building that houses approximately 56 first year and upper year students. Huron has five houses right on its campus that are available exclusively for upper year, graduate or professional student housing. Brough Guest House is located on the Huron campus and is available to visitors who require overnight accommodation at Huron and is available to rent for corporate and private affairs.
