Hura (Bengali: হুড়া) is a town, community development bloc and assembly constituency in Purulia district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

The area forms the lowest step of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. The general scenario is undulating land with scattered hills.[1]

In the 2001 census, Hura community development bloc had a total population of 127,423 of which 64,462 were males and 62,961 were females. Decadal growth for the period 1991-2001 was 12.04% for Hura, against 13.96% in Purulia district. Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84%.[2]

Hura is an intermediate panchayat in Purulia district, with Chatumadar. Daldali, Hura, Jabattah, Kalabani, Keshergarh, Ladhurka, Lakhanpur, Maguria-Lalpur, and Rakheria-Bishpuria village panchayats under it..[3]

In the 2006 elections to the state assembly, Subhas Chandra Mahata of CPI(M) won the Hura assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Baghambar Mahato of AITC . Abinas Mahata of CPI(M) defeated Bikash Chandra Mahato of AITC in 2001 and Baghambar Mahato representing Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Ambarish Mukhopadhyay of CPI(M) defeated Madan Mohan Mahato of INC in 1991, Bikash Mahato of INC in 1987, Bhola Nath Mahato of ICS, and Raj Rajeshwari Prasad Singhdeo of Janata Party in 1977. [4]

Hura is part of Bankura (Lok Sabha constituency).[5]
