Hunter produces pop-up gear-driven rotors, spray sprinklers, valves, controllers, central controllers and weather sensors. The company was founded in 1981 by Edwin J. Hunter and Paul M. Hunter, to produce a compact golf-course sprinkler called the "PGP" (an acronym meaning "plastic gear-driven pop-up"), which has since become one of the most widely-used lawn sprinklers in the world and has served as the prototype for nearly all of today's gear-driven sprinkler heads. The current president and CEO is Richard E. Hunter, Edwin’s son.
