Hunter Connection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hunter Connection improved the connection where New Jersey Transit's Raritan Valley Line merges with the Northeast Corridor Line south of downtown Newark, New Jersey. The Hunter Connection is a new double-track line just south of the former connection, with fewer curves and catenary wire.

Prior to the improvements, the connection consisted of a single track, older overhead wire, and Pennsylvania Railroad signaling. The connection historically was used by the PRR and Lehigh Valley to exchange the LV's New York originating/destined passenger trains, such as the Black Diamond. It was at the top of the hill at NK interlocking where LV diesels exchanged the train(s) to PRR GG1's.
