Hunsbury

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hunsbury is a modern suburban housing development in the south of Northampton, England, approximately two miles from the town centre. The area was developed as part of the 1970s and 1980s development plan for the expansion of Northampton, prior to which the area was open agricultural land.

Once the site of an Iron Age hill fort, the area today consists of 1980s and 1990s suburban housing and boasts green spaces including Penvale Park, Hunsbury Country Park and Grange Wood. The area is split into West and East Hunsbury, divided by the old Towcester Road. Junctions 15 and 15a of the M1 motorway serve the area and many Hunsbury residents utilise these good transport links for commuting to Milton Keynes and London. Collingtree Golf Course borders the eastern edge of the conurbation, whilst the busy M1 motorway can be seen (and heard) in West Hunsbury. Parts of the area are still known by their original names, when the area was undeveloped, of Blackymore and Shelfleys which appear on directional signs.

The current parliamentary seat is Northampton South, Conservative, but will become the new seat of South Northamptonshire from the next general election (2008, 9 or 10), also considered a 'safe' Conservative seat.
