From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hung Mung is a Discordian Five Star Saint, one of the Five Apostles of Eris. He is the Patron Saint of the Discordian Season of Chaos. His Holyday [sic] is Mungday.

From the Principia Discordia, page 00039, "The Five Apostles of Eris & Who They Be":

  1. Hung Mung
A Sage of ancient China and Official Discordian Missionary to the Heathen Chinee [sic]'. He who originally devised THE SACRED CHAO. Patron of the Season of Chaos. Holyday: Jan 5.

Hung Mung predates modern discordianism by over two thousand years, being a character in the ancient Chinese book, The Writings of Chuang Tzu. A quote from this work is referenced in the Principia Discordia as being part of Kerry Wendell Thornley's The Honest Book of Truth. Hung Mung's name in Chinese is 鸿蒙 (unsimplified: 鴻蒙) and can be translated as "foolish goose".
