Huney

Huney is an uninhabited island near to the island of Unst in the Shetland Islands, Scotland, in the North Isles group. The island is located approximately 1 kilometre south west of the Balta at grid reference HP655065 and has an area of just 0.2 km² (0.08 square miles or about fifty acres). It is due east of Unst.
Huney is linked to Unst at an extreme low tide by an a sandy tombolo called the Yei of Huney. It is uninhabited and its highest point is 19 metres. [1]
The World War I British E class submarine E49 was sunk in the channel between Huney and Balta with the loss of all hands March 12, 1917. The submarine was heading out of Balta Sound on patrol when it struck a Naval mine lain by German U-boat UC-76. The wreck is now a designated war grave.
