Hunchback is a punk rock band originating from New Brunswick, New Jersey. It is presumed that the band gets its name from the 1923 movie The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Through the use of typical punk rock instrumentation mended with synthesizers and samplers, Hunchback have a sound unique to the modern day punk rock idiom. They are known for their array of stylistic diversity, incorporating elements of psychedelia, surf, metal, pop, and obscure punk into their songwriting. Thematically, most of the songs deal with the paranormal, personal experiences with horror movies, comic books, and finding hope in what they consider to be an inhibited society.

[edit] History

In early years, Hunchback played mostly instrumental music layered with samples from horror movies. In recent years, however, the band has grown to become more confrontational with their creative output. In 2004 they released their debut album, Ugly on the Outside, on Freedom School Records. The band toured briefly and soon returned to writing songs for their follow up LP, Pray For Scars which was released in 2008 and recorded by the band itself.

In 2007, the band recruited Michael Gerald of Killdozer to record vocals for their cover of Christina Aguilera's song "Beautiful" which saw release in both the 7" and LP format. The band is currently preparing to tour in support the release of Pray For Scars. It is rumored that the band also has plans for two future albums, entitled "Autumn and Ancestors" and "Use Yr Confusion". This was alluded to in a post by Mike Hunchback on their Myspace message board.
