Talk:Human (disambiguation)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] "Humans in ..." vs "Human (context)"
It seems recently a user named Aris Katsaris moved all of the Human pages to new names. They originally had the form:
Human (Star Wars)
for example, and now have the form:
Humans in Star Wars
I don't know if this was an innocent action or not, but Wikipedia clearly uses the former convention. All disambiguations across the entire encyclopedia are made with the parenthesis. It is fine to change the names of the links from this disambig page, but it isn't fine to change the names of the articles to these longer and less encyclopedic names.
I've changed Humans in Warcraft back to Human (Warcraft) before realising the extent of the changes. Before I make any major changes back, I'd like to come to a consensus so as not to get caught into an edit war involving page names. —EatMyShortz
- OK - It's all been fixed now, thanks Uther. —EatMyShortz 14:38, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Humanity
I would just like to add an extra note here (I'm sure I'll find some more time to add further in the future...) - where is the term 'humanity'? I would have thought that this word is in common enough usage to warrant at least some mention under the human disambiguation page. Perhaps a link to humanism - but humanism is a philosophy (and I suppose somebody could piece together a reasonable definition of 'humanity' from links that currently exist). The point that I am trying to make isn't that humanity isn't already covered in some sense within existing wiki articles - but that the various definitions of it are too spread out (arguable 'humanity' deserves it's own dismbiguation page - for the several definitions of it :
- the collection of humans (ie : all of them - but this is pretty much covered in the 'human' wiki)
- the concept - both in terms of civility and behaviour (actually - there are quite a few concepts in general verbal usage that come under humanity)
Here's a dictionary definition : http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=humanity

- Official policy: Wikipedia is not a dictionary. Right now, Humanity links to the Human page - where under Terminology there is a brief definition of the term. For the other definition, Humanitarianism. I think the reason it isn't linked through the disambig is that disambig pages are only for those pages that genuinely have the same name or you might be confused - whereas, anyone looking for "Humanitarianism" would not try looking on "Human (disambiguation)". —EatMyShortz 14:38, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
BTW, why is it that other guys can delete old discussion contributions? I would have thought that slightly deleterious.
- I haven't noticed any deletions (?) —EatMyShortz 14:38, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
