English: Human shields greeted as they cross the border into Iraq
The Human Shield Action to Iraq crossed the border into northern Iraq from Syria on the 15th of February, 2003. This is a picture of the crowd that greeted the double-decker buses as they made their way over the border crossing into the adjacent street. It was quite a crowd considering no one knew, not even the shields themselves until the night before, that this was where they would enter Iraq. The man leaning out the door is 68 year old Godfrey Meynell of Britain, who was fluent in Arabic and explained to the forming crowd why they were there. Les membres de l'opération bouclier humain franchirent la frontière irakienne depuis la Syrie le 15 féfrier 2003. Cette image montre la foule accueillant les bus à étage s'écartant de la frontière vers les rues adjacentes. L'homme tourné vers la foule est Godfrey Meynell, qui venait d'Angleterre et parlait couramment l'arabe, et qui expliquait à la foule ce que le groupe faisait là.
