[edit] History
Humanim was founded in 1971 as a not for profit organization serving individuals with disabilities. Formerly Developmental Services Group (DSG Inc.), the agency was renamed Humanim Inc. in 2000. It has grown substantially since then, tripling in its organizational size and scope of service. Its various programs now reach thousands of individuals of all ages, through many areas of human services.
[edit] Present
As the organization has grown, it has acquired numerous subsidiaries in order to increase its size and funding. The following companies and organizations are now subsidiaries of Humanim, Inc.:
- Individual Support Services
- iScan
- Humanim Outpatient Mental Health Clinics
- workFirst
- Workforce Solutions
- Humanim's Student Assessment Center
Humanim has also partnered with the National Organization on Disability (NOD) in its Start On Success (SOS) program, which provides disadvantaged youth college-like career exploration and job training, as well as internships.
As a result of such growth, Humanim has many offices and locations throughout the state of Maryland, as well as dozens of staffed housing facilities provided for consumers who are unable to live alone or attend its on-site day services. The company, currently headquartered in Howard County, also makes efforts to improve local economies by providing employment opportunities to mentally and physically disabled people. Humanim is known for encouraging its top executives and VPs to involve themselves in outside causes such as local public office and related foundations. Its officers (CEO, CFO, COO and CDO), and many members of its Board are considered among the state's most prominent business, political, charitable and philanthropic leaders.
[edit] Core Services
Humanim has five core service areas: mental health, vocational, neuro-rehabilitation, developmental disabilities and deaf services. Each area has various departments within it that implement the strategies and goals of the company. Its services are made available to children, adolescents, adults and the elderly. Humanim seeks to develop access to quality care for those in greatest need regardless of age, gender, geography, ethnicity or human service requirements.
